19th Century by Audemar & Guyon Dole Jura

What a rare find! This stove was hiding in a barn in south Burgundy, obviously a relic of times gone by, just waiting for us to come along and rescue it. It must have come from the local Manoir or Chateau as this kind of stove was not for ordinary folk- even 120 years ago it would have been relatively expensive to buy. It was made by the foundry of Audemar & Guyon, (formerly Guyon Frères) situated at Dole in the Jura department of France, probably in the very last part of the 19th century. It is extremely well cast, having a typical Arts & Crafts style theme to the casting. It has a beaded motif in the casting along the four corners of the stove body and this is continuous around the base of the stove body, as well as being shown on the claw and ball feet. It has a wonderful "fleur de lys" casting on the top cover which can be lifted revealing a hotplate which could serve to keep the coffee hot! . The makers plate on the front says: "Audemar Guyon a Dole Jura " The bonus with this stove is that it is in original condition (which is very rare these days). It is immaculate and ready to use. The firebox and ash box are all in excellent working order, and the mica in the door has been renewed. This stove would add grandeur to any period home and would compliment an elegant conservatory. This is a rare opportunity to own a working, living individual piece of French 19th C history. Stoves like this one do not come on the market often so we advise you to offer early to avoid disappointment.
