What an extremely rare find! This stove was sold to us by a Lyonnais (a person from Lyon) who bought it over 30 years ago from an antique dealer. He used it purely as a decorative piece in his house. It would have come from a local Manoir or Chateau as this kind of stove was not for ordinary folk- even 140 years ago it would have been very expensive to buy. It was made by the foundry of Godin situated at Guise in the Aisne department of France, probably in the very last part of the 19th century. It is extremely well cast, having a typical Napoleon III/Empire style theme to the casting. We have managed to reference this stove in the 1863 Godin catalogue which makes it almost 150 years old. The casting and design are typical of the Napoleon III /Empire period, and, indeed, the design of this stove predates the Franco Prussian war of the 1870's The firebox is removable and is a coal only stove so you must bear this in mind. It also has a central, top flue exit so is ideal for placement in the middle of a room. The bonus with this stove is that it is in original condition (which is very rare these days). It is immaculate and ready to use. The firebox and ash box are all in excellent working order, This stove will add grandeur to any period home and would compliment an elegant conservatory. I've included the page from the 1863 catalogue showing the stove and its various models This is a rare opportunity to own a working, living individual piece of French 19th C history. Stoves like this one do not come on the market often so we advise you to offer early to avoid disappointment.
