This is a superb
opportunity to own an original 19th century Petit Godin "à la dentelle"
(which literally means "with lace"). This is the stove that made Jean-Baptiste
André Godin's name in the latter part of the1840's, and he went on to
become one of the most famous and respected stove manufacturers of his
day. He also became the foremost social reformer of his day in France,
housing his workers in a specially built complex called "le Familistère"
which included the Godin factory, various shops and even a theatre. He
eventually signed the ownership of the complex over to his workers.
This is the original version of
the multi-fuel stove "Le Petit Godin" which is still available today
It is around 4kw in power
and is designed to burn any type of wood and coal.
Fuel is
loaded from the top, or from the front opening door which can be found
behind the large opening pierced filigree doors which make up part of the stove
casing.
It was found in an old
epicerie (grocers) where we were delighted to learn its history from the
90 year retired epicier (grocer)
It is
exceptional condition with no damage whatsoever. You can see that there
is a steel band around the firebox, this is typical of 19th century
engineering!
The
dimensions are:
86cms (33¾”)H x 32cms (12½") in
diameter at the top and 45cms (17¾") in
diameter at the legs. The flue size is 9.5cms (3¾”) and is 58cms
(22¾”)from the floor.
