Le Petit Godin
Here's a classic Petit Godin multi-fuel stove - about
30-35 years old, made by the superb and well known manufacturer Godin
who has been around for at least 150 years.
The original version of this stove made Jean-Baptiste
André Godin's name in the latter part of the1840's, and he went on to
become one of the most famous and respected stove manufacturers of his
day. He also became the foremost social reformer of his day in France,
housing his workers in a specially built complex called "le Familistère"
which included the Godin factory, various shops and even a theatre. He
eventually signed the ownership of the complex over to his workers.
Le Petit Godin is around 5kw in power and can
burn practically every sort of combustible imaginable.
Fuel is loaded from the top.
Lift the enamel lid and there's another lid that can be used for
cooking. Open the inner lid and drop logs
of up to 40cms (15¾”)
in vertically. Once the wood fire is established, add more wood or add
coal. There's a small Mica glass window near the bottom and below that
is an ash pan. It is naturally in
fantastic condition and is ready to use.
This is a beautiful stove and these photos do not
really do it justice!
